Toronto is maybe the greatest city in Canada, a metropolitan destination for the entire world – but that doesn’t mean it isn’t also a conduit to some of the most beautiful natural attractions on the planet! Just look at some of these incredible spots in the Greater Toronto Area (affectionately known as “The Six,” or the GTA).
ELORA GORGE T
he home of the rushing Grand River, the Elora Gorge is a fantastic place to tube and kayak in the beauty of nature. Even better, this August 18-20, it’s the home of Riverfest, a three-day music festival featuring great indie acts like Mother Mother, Gogol Bordello, MGMT, Sloan, and many, many more!
THE SCARBOROUGH BLUFFS
Following roughly 15 km of the shore of Lake Ontario, the Scarborough Bluffs are a marvel of the forces of nature. The result of thousands of years of sedimentary deposits and erosion, these chalky bluffs are awe-inspiring. They’re also right by some great swimming!
Rattlesnake Point is composed of hectares of protected land, and really has it all for nature lovers. Hiking, swimming, climbing, bird watching and more. It’s gorgeous any time of year, but no more beautiful than summer. If you’ve never visited and loved the outdoors, it is ESSENTIAL that you go – and at just over an hour’s drive from downtown Toronto, it’s easy to get to!
